Do you ever wonder why Whiteboard Animations are so engaging? It’s all about the script, without the perfect script for your video it’s simply just images on a screen. Creating the perfect script isn’t the easiest task, which is why we are going to let you in on a few tips on how it’s done.
Tip 1: Identify the Key Message
The first tip involves identifying the key message you want your video to portray. Whether your video is used for training, education, explanation, or promotions we recommend choosing one message you want your audience to receive. Focusing on one message avoids confusion among your audience and allows your video to be more clear. When writing your script you want to keep your key message towards the beginning, so it’s said within the first 30 seconds of your video. It’s also important to keep in mind that the message you’re conveying turns into a specific call to action.
Tip 2: Call to Action
The second tip is creating a call to action. Once your key message is identified you want to narrow down exactly what you want your audience to learn or do once your video is over. This could be a series of actions such as liking your Facebook page, purchasing your new product or taking action on a universal issue. Remember just like your key message you only want to choose one specific call to action that’ll be the best fit for your video. It’s important that your call to action is written at the end of your script so it resonates with your audience.
Tip 3: Identify your Audience & Voice
The third tip is to identify your target audience. It’s important to think about who you’re going to target with your video because it affects the overall tone and language of your script. When thinking about your audience you also need to take into consideration the platform that your video will be screened on. Identifying the platform you want to use also affects the way you write your script.
For example, if your video is being used in a company meeting to explain a new system you should be writing your script with industry and company terms that will be known to your audience. When choosing the tone of your script you want to make sure it goes along with your message and audience. For instance, you don’t want to write in a humorous way if your message is on a more serious note. You also want to make sure that you’re talking to your audience and not at them, we recommend using more personal vocabulary such as “you” and “your”.
Tip 4: Keep it Short
Lastly, you want to make sure you keep your script short and to the point. In order to keep your audience engaged while getting your message across we suggest to write a minute of narration which we estimate to be around 130 words. If your message is complex and you need more time to explain it, it’s OK if your video exceeds our estimated word count. Keeping your script short and concise allows for your video to be easily understood by your audience.
